Port Captain (m/f/d)

Our Port Operations is complementing the operations staff in cargo care, stowage and planning and oversee the supply of equipment utilized for the cargo hold cleaning and securing of cargo on all owned and operated vessels in accordance with our code of practice.
We are looking for a flexible and adaptable Port Captain to join our team in the US (Gulf of Mexico area). The specific work location will be determined by the company based on current needs, skills and experience. This approach allows us to place the new joiners in the location where they can make the most significant impact.
Job responsibilities
- Pro-active assistance to be provided before vessel’s arrival in coordination with the operator
- Coordination and monitoring of vessels during the time in the port/s of the area and planning for quick turnarounds
- Gathering information on all new ports facilities and restriction guidelines
- Negotiation of rates with stevedores, agents and other companies services needed in the port
- Research port and its facilities in the region
- Conduct visits to vessel/port wherever and whenever necessary (Canada, USA, Mexico, etc.)
- Manage the supply, distribution and tracking of all consumable cleaning and cargo handling equipment
- Maintain updated accounts records for all consumable cargo equipment supplied incl. payment authorisation in conjunction with senior management
- Carry out Cargo analysis if nominated cargoes are safe for transportation in accordance with IMSBC, Dangerous Goods Code and other regulations
- General responsibility to management for all practical marine supervision aspects pertaining to the cargo operations incl. carriage
- Distributing of important information to inform chartering and operation over port closing, wars, catastrophe, etc. which can affect our business
What you bring along
- Chief officer or Master Mariner with relevant working experience
- Acceptable as well Stevedoring background
- Expertise with regards to cargo operations are welcome
- Possess basic knowledge of loading, unloading and transportation of all kinds of cargo on seagoing ships
- Excellence in communication (both written and spoken), organizational skills including IT skills
- Enjoy being a team player
- Fluency in English is essential
- Fluency in Spanish of advantage
