The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Global Steel Raw Materials to prepare and communicate short to long term forecasts to internal freight teams, comprising of traders as well as fellow analysts. Whilst the team has primary focus on iron ore and steel, analysis will also include other metals and ferrous products like bauxite and manganese ore. The role sits within Oldendorff’s 25-person strong Research team which offers plenty of opportunities for cross-disciplinary knowledge transfer.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist the desk head in conducting supply and demand analysis of the global iron ore and steel market.
- Assist the desk head and freight teams in developing business strategy through detailed market analysis.
- Develop and maintain databases, forecast models and reports to support the team in formulating and communicating market views.
- Communicate latest industry updates and provide intel on the global steel sector and related policies, leveraging on primary sources like industry contacts or the internal commercial teams.
What You Bring Along
- Up to 5 years’ working experience, preferably in iron ore or steel related research or trading.
- Team player, detail oriented, excellent communicator, resourceful and a problem solver.
- Ability to grasp new concepts fast with a high level of initiative and independence.
- Willingness to travel, especially to China.
- Proficient in Excel and PPT, knowledge of SQL and VBA is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Quantitative finance, Mathematics, Economics, or related fields.
- Bilingual in English and Mandarin.
